"I attended the documents workshop after receiving a provident fund statement I couldn't make head or tail of. The session was calm, the facilitator had real patience with questions, and I left with a checklist I have actually used twice since. There was no pressure to do anything with the information — just room to understand it."
Reading the Statement Workshop

"The reading group was something different. I've been to seminars at my bank and they always end with a product being pushed. This didn't. We read two or three pages before each evening and then talked through the ideas. I appreciated that the facilitator gave space for disagreement and didn't try to reach a tidy conclusion."

"I enrolled in the healthcare planning sessions because my mother is ageing and I had no idea what the costs might look like. The facilitator covered provincial versus private hospital costs clearly and without recommending anything. The workbook has been useful when talking with my siblings about how we share responsibilities. The follow-up call six weeks later was a thoughtful touch."

"I had avoided reading my mutual fund statement for almost two years. The documents workshop gave me a way in. The group was small enough that I could ask a question without feeling embarrassed about not knowing something everyone else seemed to know. It turned out most of us had similar gaps."

"I was slightly sceptical before attending the reading group — I worried it might feel like a book club rather than something with practical value. It turned out to be both, in the right balance. The third evening's topic on market cycles was the one I found most useful. I'll likely attend the healthcare planning sessions next year."

"The healthcare planning programme was well-timed for me. I'm 52, both parents are in their late 70s, and I'd been putting off thinking about care costs. The workbook is honest about what the numbers look like in Thailand, and the facilitator was very clear that they were there to help me understand options, not to point me toward specific products."
Healthcare & Long-Term Care Planning
A Few Participant Journeys
These accounts follow the arc of what some participants came with, what they engaged with, and what they took away.
Account 1 · Documents Workshop
The Situation
A retired teacher, 58, received a combined provident fund and mutual fund portfolio statement and found herself unable to identify whether her fund was performing as expected or not. She had never been explained the difference between NAV and unit price.
What She Did
She attended the documents workshop, brought her statement (with account numbers redacted), and worked through it with the facilitator's guidance during the application section. Other participants had similar questions about fund factsheets.
What Changed
She left with a checklist and the ability to locate the specific line items she had been overlooking. At her next annual statement review, she felt confident enough to write down her questions before calling her bank branch.
"It was the first time anyone had explained what the fund expense ratio actually meant for my balance. Such a simple thing, but it had never been pointed out to me before."
Account 2 · Healthcare Planning
The Situation
A 47-year-old small business owner had elderly parents in Chiang Rai and was unsure whether their existing Social Security coverage would be sufficient, or how to think about supplementary insurance without being guided toward a product sale.
What He Did
He attended both healthcare planning sessions and used the workbook to map out the possible costs at different care levels. The six-week call helped him think through a specific question about his parents' provincial hospital access.
What Changed
He arrived at a clearer set of questions for his parents' doctor and felt better prepared for a family conversation about care arrangements. He did not buy insurance as a direct result of the programme — and was not nudged to do so.
"The workbook helped me separate 'what I need to know now' from 'what I should be thinking about in five years'. That distinction was worth the time on its own."
Account 3 · Reading Group
The Situation
A couple in their early 60s, both approaching retirement, wanted to think through their household finances together without the awkwardness of consulting a financial planner in a formal setting. They enrolled in the reading group separately and found they arrived at different questions.
What They Did
Both attended all three evenings. The group format gave them language to bring back to their own conversations. The third evening on market cycles was particularly useful for one spouse who was more anxious about the family's investment exposure.
What Changed
They came away with a shared vocabulary for household financial discussions — something they had not had before — and with fewer unspoken assumptions about retirement spending. Neither was pressed toward a decision or product.
"Being in a room with other adults asking the same questions we had been embarrassed to ask at home was genuinely useful. The facilitator never made anyone feel the question was too basic."
